The calculation formula of concrete mix proportion and the values in the table of relevant parameters provided in "Specification for mix proportion design of ordinary concrete" are all based on dry state (Note: dry aggregate refers to fine aggregate with moisture content less than 0.5% or coarse aggregate with moisture content less than 0.2%).
According to this regulation, the water content state of sand and stone materials used in concrete laboratory mix proportion is dry state, while the water content state of sand and stone in construction site is often changed due to the influence of natural environment conditions, and the change range of moisture content is from air dry state to wet state. The remaining water in the sand and stone mixing chamber will not be absorbed until the water content in the mixing chamber is saturated. Therefore, the mixing water consumption in the laboratory mix proportion includes two parts: one part is absorbed by the internal pores of sand and gravel particles, and the other part is used for the hydration of cement in concrete mixture and the formation of cement slurry with certain consistency (this part of water is called effective water consumption).
When converting the construction mix proportion of concrete, the water content of sand and stone measured at the construction site, regardless of its value and water content state, is regarded as the water amount deducted from the mixing water consumption, and the corresponding amount of sand and stone is added.
This method of concrete mix proportion design based on the dry state of sand and stone is easy to operate and easy to calculate in practical work, which is widely used in civil engineering. Its disadvantage is that the calculation of water consumption in concrete is not strict, and the water cement ratio of concrete is not easy to be accurately controlled in construction.
